Smartphone penetration rates are fast rising in Bangladesh, and Android phones largely dominate this sector. A major reason for Android’s popularity is the huge collection of Android based apps available. While the Google Play Store has so far been the go-to place for Android apps, local developers and users alike often face problems using the native Android app store.

These problems include getting crowded out by international apps, facing difficulties in downloading paid apps as well as receiving money from selling apps at the Play Store. To help local users and developers a way out of this problem, Bangladeshi Android app store AppBajar has started its journey.

Local app development firm Advanced Apps Bangladesh Limited unveiled AppBajar at a program held at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendra on Wednesday. General Secretary of BDOSN Munir Hassan as well as numerous local app developers were present at the program.

“AppBajar is aimed at making it easy for local app developers receive money from selling apps as well as facilitating app purchases for local buyers.”

Shafiul Alam, CEO of Advanced Apps Bangladesh Limited stated, “AppBajar is aimed at making it easy for local app developers receive money from selling apps as well as facilitating app purchases for local buyers.” He also added that AppBajar would expand its operations internationally as well.

Emphasizing that local users are accustomed to downloading free applications, BDOSN General Secretary Munir Hasan stated that such a tendency of using only free applications severely demotivates local developers from designing new apps. He then expressed his hope that luanching a local app market would encourage local developers in coming up with new applications.

AppBajar functions much like Google Play Store in that it has the option to upload both free as well as paid applications. Moreover, there will also be a Wallet, Gift System as well as the chance to put up advertisements.

JoomShaper CEO Kawsar Ahmed, Payoneer Brand Ambassador Rifat Ahmed, CEO of RRF Foundation Rasel Ahmed andThemexpert CEO Parvez Akhter were among those present at the program.
